Philadelphia seems to be on a war path to become the face of America’s broken criminal justice system.
At one end, you have Meek Mill, who is currently serving a 2-to-4 for a parole violation.
Then, a few days ago, two black men were arrested at a Starbucks in Philly, for seemingly doing absolutely nothing, while waiting for their friend to show up.
Meek set up a call with CNN’s Don Lemon to offer his thoughts on the Starbuck situation:
If I was them kids at Starbucks, you see they’re talking about the Starbucks, the black kids got locked up. If I would have gotten locked up in Starbucks, just for sitting in Starbucks, by mistake, and got a technical violation, [then] legally a judge would be able to sentence me to 2-to-4 years, 3-to-6 years, 5-to-10 years just for having police contact
Fortunately, Meek sounds like he’s in pretty good spirits.
Meek Mill was granted a new trial for his gun and drug conviction this week on the grounds that his arresting officer allegedly lied about the circumstances of Meek’s arrest.
