BSO sources have told me that if Garrett doesn’t make it to the Playoffs that Jerry Jones is finally ready to pull the trigger and fire him. Jones will not do it during the season and will deny even thinking about. Remember Jerry denied he was telling players they had to stand for the anthem until eventually, he came clean.
Jones sees the success of young innovative coaches like Sean McVay around the league and wants that type of offense. He is also looking into the college ranks to possibly strike gold as he did was Jimmy Johnson many years ago, Lincoln Riley of Oklahoma would be at the top of his list.
Why is Jerry fed up with Jason Garrett, because of things like this.
Somewhat lost in the craziness of the game’s final play was the Cowboys’ clock management in the final minute. An 18-yard completion to Cole Beasley gave Dallas a first-and-10 at the Redskins’ 46-yard line with 52 seconds to play. Redskins cornerback Fabian Moreau was injured on the play, which stopped the clock. On the next play, Prescott completed a nine-yard pass over the middle to Beasley, and the Cowboys, who still had one timeout remaining, allowed the clock to run. At 28 seconds, Prescott dropped back and found Beasley over the middle for a six-yard gain. Officials stopped the clock with 12 seconds to play to review the catch. After the call on the field was confirmed, the Cowboys ran one final play, a two-yard run by Ezekiel Elliott, before calling a timeout with three seconds left. Had they managed the clock a little better, the Cowboys could’ve taken at least one shot at the end zone or made an attempt to pick up a few extra yards.
Garrett plainly says he never had any intentions of trying to win the game.
“The biggest thing after we got ourselves into field goal range was to try to get up there and clock the ball, preserve that last timeout and then give us the freedom,” Garrett said. “I think we were trying to get the ball down to 12 seconds. So once we got down to that point, the biggest thing that we wanted to do was maximize the field goal opportunity and run the ball, make some yards, use the timeout and then kick the game-tying field goal.”
Don’t be shocked when the Cowboys have a new head coach next year.
