Forget the games you saw on Monday and Wednesday, the college basketball season tips off tonight.
Tonight, in honor of Veterans’ Day, North Carolina and Michigan State will play a very special game on the USS Carl Vinson in San Diego. It will be a very unique game as it will be played outside starting locally at 4PM Pacific Time.
President Obama, known basketball lover, will be in attendance along with other members of various military branches. This is the same ship that buried Osama Bin Laden’s body at sea.
As far as the actual basketball, this game features the preseason’s consensus number one team in the country facing off against the perennial powerhouse of Michigan State. These two have had sort of a rivalry forming over the past couple of seasons. We all remember the beat down that Tyler Hansbrough and Ty Lawson put on Michigan State in the title game in 2009 in the state of Michigan. North Carolina brings back superstar Harrison Barnes for his Sophomore season after wisely skipping the NBA Lockout situation. Coming off of a disappointing season by their standards, Tom Izzo’s squad comes into the game led by Senior Draymond Green.
On paper this game looks to be a mismatch as far as talent goes, but the elements of this game make it harder to predict. Who can get their Sidney Dean on and play the wind on their jump shot the best?
Either way make sure you at least check out this game for a little while to take in history. What do you think? Who ya got and if it is North Carolina, by how many do you have them by?
