The Toronto Raptors celebrated their NBA Finals win over the Golden State Warriors in six games. Over 1 million people showed up for the parade but it was met with chaos as a shooting took place. According to TMZ Sports, four gun shots were supposedly fired just before 1PM. Raptors play-by-play announcer Matt Devlin took the mic in the middle of the celebration to say that a situation nearby was very serious but was getting handled. He then comforted fans by saying that things will be ok and that the celebration will go on.
Police have said that three suspects have been arrested and that they recovered two guns. four people were shot and are being treated for serious injuries but aren’t considered to be life-threatening. Shortly after the madness, hometown superstar and Raptors ambassador Drake took the mic and told everyone to spread love.
After the situation was handled by police, there were no more reports of injuries or shootings. It’s really sad that a city can’t enjoy its first championship without lives being threatened. Thankfully the festivities were able to go on to celebrate Toronto’s historic championship win.
