Air Canada is investigating how crew members didn’t notice a sleeping passenger before disembarking from a plane.
Tiffani Louise O’Brien (AKA Tiffani Adams) of St. Thomas, Ontario, Canada fell asleep while returning home after a weekend in Quebec on June 9. She awoke to a cold abandoned plane in complete darkness with her phone on 1% battery. She called her friend Deanna Dale and explained the situation after waking up to multiple text messages from her around midnight EST.
In an interview with CTV Winnipeg, Deanna recounted how she asked her:
“What do you mean you’re still on the plane? She said “I fell asleep and I just woke up.” and I said nobody woke you up?”
Tiffani managed to find a flashlight in the cockpit, open the cabin door, and attract the attention of ground crew personnel.
Air Canada confirmed her account to multiple publications and said the incident is under investigation.
In the same interview with CTV Winnipeg, Tiffani stated:
“…I am so scared that I am going touch something that’s wrong, but I knew I had to do something and I found a flashlight and I was so happy. That was like the best moment ever…”
After her flight left at 7:55 PM EST,O’Brien didn’t return home until 3 AM EST. Air Canada Flight 1799 from Quebec to Toronto is generally a 90-minute flight.
