We broke news last night that New England controversial receiver Antonio Brown is facing a rape allegation from his former trainer on 3 separate incidents. After the allegations hit media waves, Antonio Brown through his attorney completely denied all allegations and is currently countersuing the former trainer for defamation. To bring this issue to a broader spotlight, NFL Senior Reporter Albert Breer just brought up specific language within Antonio Browns contract that highlights AB’s current issue. Within the guaranteed language of AB’s contract it states,
“If Brown takes any action that materially undermines the public’s respect for, or is materially critical of the club, the player’s teammates or the Club’s ownership, coaches, “etc guarantees “null and void”
What does this mean? He would be in the same situation like in Oakland, the guaranteed money would be void. Within AB’s contract he has a $9 Million dollar signing bonus that’s paid in two installments (Sept 23, Jan 15) according to Albert Breer. Base Salary is $1 Million, with roster bonuses of $500K and $1.5 incentives for yards, catches TD’s etc. What is interesting here is that its being reported this morning via ESPN, the commissioner is considering placing Antonio Brown on the commissioners exempt list. Antonio Brown doesn’t have to be formally charged with a crime to be placed on the list. Furthermore, I think its highly hypocritical that it says in the language any action that undermines the respect which is critical to the club’s ownership; What about Robert Kraft getting hand-jobs from hookers at Asian Spas? Is that not critical enough? Interesting… Flip the page to see guaranteed language in AB’s contract as well as reaction around twitter.
