Danny Garcia (35-2) has been in the ring with most of the top guys at 147 over a number of years; He has a knockout win of Amir Khan, unanimous decision wins over Eric Morales, Zab Judah and Lucas Mattysse. His two losses came to Shawn Porter and Keith Thurman. Although Garcia reined as a titleholder from 2016- 2017, he has been relatively quiet since losing his belt to Thurman.
He fought twice in 2018, a win over Brandon Rios and then a loss to Shawn Porter, and then once in 2019, a dominant win over Adrian Granados.
He was slated to have a fight versus unified titleholder Errol Spence Jr., but that was put on hold after Spence was involved in a serious car accident. This left Danny looking for a replacement opponent.
And Ivan Redkach was game. Redkach has a record of 23-4-1, and while he doesn’t have the resume of Danny Garcia, he is coming off an impressive KO victory over Devon Alexander. He’s looking to make a name for himself if he can pull out a win over Garcia in this title eliminator. Redkach has everything to gain and little to lose, making him a somewhat dangerous opponent.
Redkach is a fierce competitor who comes to fight and leaves it all in the ring. Unfortunately, that will most likely work against him in the ring with the stronger, effective counterpuncher in Garcia. The fight should be entertaining for as long as it lasts. Redkach is trying to pull the second upset of 2020 after Rosario who was a big underdog TKOed Julian Williams
With a win, Garcia should still be next up to face Errol Spence. It’s worth a mention that Redkach, like Spence, is a southpaw.
The fight airs at 9:00 p.m. Eastern/6:00 p.m. Pacific on Showtime.
