Two men have been arrested for identity theft in Atlanta, but not before they received 5-star treatment from hotels and businesses after successfully convincing people they worked for and in some cases, were actual members of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Walker Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo according to the police reserved studios, stayed at upscale hotels where they racked up thousands of dollars in charges that were never paid.
At The Georgian Terrace Hotel in Atlanta, the pair ran up around a $45,000 bill and left the Hyatt Regency Atlanta holding the bag with a $39,000 unpaid tab. Walker Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo rode around in style, driving a Rolls Royce Phantom rented from a company called A-National Limousine, which lost around $60,000 in revenue as a result of the scam.
The Wu-Tang Clan wasn’t the only cover Walker Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo used to finesse their way into lavish hotels, Jay-Z’s Roc Nation was also used in Washington and Barnes-Burpo’s fraud scheme. Their crime spree may very well still be active if not for one hotel contacting Roc Nation to confirm Walker Washington and Aaron Barnes-Burpo’s story which of course, didn’t check out.
Aaron Barnes-Burpo and Walker Washington have been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud and aggravated identity theft, neither defendant has hired an attorney yet, and have given no official statements regarding the charges against them.
