In a shocking turn of events, former Clippers trainer Randy Shelton has decided to take legal action against the franchise, claiming that he was wrongfully terminated. Shelton alleges that his dismissal was a direct result of him raising concerns about the team’s “unsafe and illegal treatment” towards star player Kawhi Leonard.
According to Shelton, he was simply doing his duty as a trainer by speaking up about the questionable practices implemented by the Clippers’ management. He believed that such treatment put Leonard’s health and well-being at risk, which ultimately prompted him to take this drastic step.
It seems like Shelton’s intention was purely to ensure the safety of the players. However, it appears that the higher-ups in the organization didn’t take kindly to his complaints and decided to terminate his employment instead.
“Shelton complained to LA Clippers’ management that they were subjected the LA Clippers’ star athlete, Kawhi Leonard (“Leonard”), to unsafe and illegal treatment, in disregard for Leonard’s health and safety and known medical restrictions. Thereafter, Sheldon was himself targeted and subjected to discriminatory and harassing conduct.”
The Clippers denied the allegations, saying they investigated Shelton’s claims and found them to be “without merit” and that this was nothing more than a blatant money grab by Shelton.
Shelton’s lawsuit also claims “allegations of tampering years prior to signing the star,” as Haynes put it, with Shelton’s attorneys saying the former trainer would be happy to talk to the NBA about that.
As of yet, Leonard has not commented on the lawsuit or its claims.
This lawsuit is certainly going to catch the attention of not only basketball fans but also legal experts who will closely analyze the merits of Shelton’s claims. Only time will tell whether or not his case will hold up in court, but one thing is for certain – the former Clippers trainer is not going down without a fight.
