Rashee Rice, a wide receiver with the Kansas City Chiefs, has agreed to serve a six-game ban for breaking the NFL’s personal conduct rules. The punishment will begin at the start of the season.
Prior to the Chiefs’ game against the Las Vegas Raiders on October 19, the NFL declared on Wednesday that Rice would be able to rejoin the team in Week 7. On September 30, a disciplinary hearing had been set for him.
Rice was given a 30-day jail sentence and five years of probation in July for his involvement in a multicar collision in Dallas during the 2024 offseason that wounded several persons.
Following an internal inquiry, the NFL imposed its ban, which Rice will not contest. The hearing before former federal judge Sue L. Robinson, which was set for the NFL’s New York headquarters on September 30, is nullified.
Rice, 25, entered a guilty plea in district court to two third-degree felony charges: racing on a highway that caused bodily injury and accident with serious bodily injury. He was given deferred adjudication, and if he finishes the probation, the matter will be dropped.
In addition to missing the Chiefs’ season opener against the Chargers in Brazil on September 5, Rice will also miss the Eagles’ Super Bowl rematch at Arrowhead Stadium on September 14 and their Sunday night trip to New York to play the Giants.
