While Patrick Mahomes Jr is out here throwing no-look passes and casually rewriting NFL history, his dad, Patrick Mahomes Sr., is dealing with a very different kind of spotlight.
Reports say Patrick Mahomes Sr. is still sitting in jail this week as prosecutors push hard for a possible 10-year sentence. Yes, ten years. That’s not a timeout, that’s a whole era.
According to the situation, Mahomes Sr. was thrown into jail as legal troubles stacked up like a bad parlay. Prosecutors are clearly not in a forgiving mood, and they’re making it known they want serious time on the table. This isn’t a “we’ll see what happens” moment, this is a “sir, please stand up” moment.
According to court records, Mahomes Sr. was booked into Smith County Jail on Tuesday and is currently being held without bond. Officials say his probation officer was alerted after his alcohol-monitoring ankle device reportedly showed a high reading on New Year’s Day.
The prosecutor also says he failed to perform his community service at the required rate of 3 hours per month for several months.
The probation violation report claims Mahomes Sr. later submitted urine tests on Jan. 5 and Jan. 9, and both reportedly came back negative for alcohol.
Still, it looks like prosecutors are moving forward with the violation claim … and a judge will ultimately decide whether Mahomes Sr. will have his probation revoked and potentially end up behind bars.
And let’s be honest. This is not the kind of headline any superstar wants floating around while they’re trying to focus on football. It’s awkward. It’s uncomfortable. And it’s definitely not something you can ignore by throwing another touchdown.
At the end of the day, this isn’t funny-funny. It’s messy funny. The kind where you laugh, then immediately feel bad for laughing. Patrick Mahomes Sr. is facing very real consequences, and prosecutors seem ready to make an example out of him.
So while one Mahomes is stacking rings, the other is counting days behind bars. Same last name. Very different seasons. And unless something changes fast, this might be one comeback story that never makes it past the courtroom.
