Terrell Owens has spent years roasting defensive backs on football fields. Now he is apparently taking that same energy to Instagram receipts.
The former San Francisco 49ers superstar went completely public this weekend with explosive accusations against his former longtime manager, Heather Mesalam, claiming she stole money from him and caused years of financial stress.
And when we say public, we mean very public.
Owens posted a flood of screenshots, receipts, and text messages on Instagram like a man who finally reached the “I’m exposing everything” stage of frustration. At this point, Instagram has basically become a courtroom with filters.
Terrell Owens did not hold back either. He labeled Mesalam a “thief” and a “liar” while accusing her of mishandling or stealing large amounts of money during the over 15 years they worked together. Fifteen years! That is longer than some NFL careers and most celebrity marriages combined.
The Hall of Famer also claimed the situation caused him years of financial trauma, which honestly makes the story way less funny and way more brutal.
In the caption, he called her “a liar and a thief,” and confirmed that she is no longer working for him in any capacity.
“I haven’t always used my voice when I should,” Owens wrote. “ But I got time today.”
In the post, Owens screenshotted a receipt that was emailed to him by Mesalam that was followed by a text message conversation in the next slide between the two, confronting her about a $200 pay increase he claims he never approved of.
Imagine trusting somebody with your finances for over a decade only to end up scrolling through receipts like a detective in a crime documentary.
In the photos, Mesalam is seen responding to his accusations by saying he approved of her pay increase in January.
In the caption, Owens said he was debating on if he should take the situation public because of the questions that would come afterwards.
But he noted that if it was him who had stolen from someone, it would be talked about on blogs and by “Talking heads at ESPN.”
He added that with the recent news of professional athletes taking their own lives due to mental health struggles, and people wondering why they would do that, “This is why,” Owens wrote.
“With the recent deaths of football players by suicide and for my own mental sanity I need to get this off my chest,” Owens said. “Heather Mesalam, it’s people like you that think you can just steal from me and think that you’re going to get away with it.”
If the allegations are true, the situation is incredibly serious. Financial betrayal hits differently when it comes from someone you trusted for years, especially in professional sports, where players often depend heavily on managers and advisors to protect their money while they focus on their careers.
