Before the two had a significant impact off the bench for Team USA in its FIBA World Cup quarterfinal against Hungary on Wednesday, Angel Reese enthused about her “chemistry” with Caitlin Clark.
Since their time at Iowa and LSU, Reese and Clark, both 24, have been competitors on the basketball floor. In the WNBA, the two continue to draw sizable crowds, especially when their teams—Clark’s Indiana Fever and Reese’s Chicago Sky or Atlanta Dream—play each other.
After years of fighting, they are now on the same squad, representing squad USA internationally. Head coach Kara Lawson has reaffirmed her faith in her Starting Five by pledging to keep Reese and Clark in their roles as impact substitutes.
Nevertheless, this hasn’t stopped Reese and Clark from showcasing their “chemistry” when they represent their nation in court together. Both made significant contributions off the bench against Hungary in the quarterfinals, as the reigning champions USA defeated them 108-56 to secure their spot in the Final 4.
Reese finished with nine points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, while Clark finished with ten points, three rebounds, nine assists, and two steals. In what was a record-breaking effort for the United States, the two combined for numerous assists and buckets.
