Former Carolina Panther Rae Carruth will finally be released on October 22 after serving an 18-year prison sentence as a result of murdering his girlfriend Cherica Adams, who was pregnant at the time according to Spectrum News Charlotte. The Department of Public Safety says he will be released from Sampson Correction Facility.
The conviction was laid down in 2001 with the original sentence being 18-24 years. Adams’ son ended up surviving but is now living with cerebral palsy and brain damage. Charges faced by Carruth were conspiracy to commit first degree murder, shooting into an occupied vehicle, using an instrument to destroy an unborn child.
Carruth spent two years in the NFL and were all with the Panthers. He caught 62 receptions for 804 yards and four touchdowns.
