Brandon Roy Has Torn Meniscus Requiring Surgery, Out Indefinitely

Do not know what it is in the water out there in Portland that makes the knees weaker than an episode of Basketball Wives, but it has claimed yet another Trailblazer.

Scans revealed that guard Brandon Roy has a torn meniscus that will require surgery to repair; that will leave him sidelined for 4-6 weeks, thus leaving his chances of seeing the floor in the playoffs very slim.

Although Roy is aware that his knee will need surgery, he says that he may try to play with the injury during the playoffs as doctors have told him that it could not get any worse.

“I want to play,” Roy said.  “It’s the playoffs. You play 82 games and take a beating just to get to this point.”

Roy, who is the teams leading scorer with 21.5 points per game, was injured in the first 11 minutes of the team’s impressive 91-88 win against the Lakers on Sunday. The Portland guard – who is no stranger to the meniscus tear, as he encountered the same injury while playing at the University of Washington – knew right away that the injury felt familiar:

“The minute it happened, I knew something wasn’t right” said Roy when asked about the injury

ESPN reports that:

“Roy said doctors plan to reevaluate his knee on Friday. He said that if he is able to play, he doesn’t want to be a distraction for his team.”

As I said earlier, there must be something in the water out in Portland as thirteen different Blazers have sat out a combined 305 games because of injuries this season, second in the league only to the Warriors and the most of any playoff-bound team.

At this point the Blazers should be requesting some sort of VIP lounge at the Portland hospital as often as they are in there. I just hope in the case that Roy does end up missing the playoffs that he doesn’t get bored and become a victim of the camera phone fad – which he will later be apologizing for. #nogregoden
