Being that the free agency period for the stars (and players posing as stars) is like Christmas to a child, I felt like this list was very necessary given all of the foolishness that has gone on thus far.  Now be warned before reading, some of the names and the numbers beside them on this list will leave you scratching your head and may result in anger … discretion is advised.

I give you the Top 25 NBA Career Salaries of All Time (strictly NBA salaries, endorsements not included), courtesy of

Note: Salary leaders are for the 1968 through 2010 NBA seasons.

23. Vince Carter — $116,793,315
24. Antawn Jamison — $111,358,288
25. Elton Brand — $110,159,451

Let’s look at this list a little further…

Tracy McGrady?  Hasn’t made it past the first round and has his own VIP section at the local hospital … let’s not forget the fact that he is related to Vince Carter.

Stephon Marbury?  This dude is now eating Vaseline and playing ball in China.  Where is all that money?

Juwan Howard? I know his 360 wave game was up, but damn.

Zydrunas Ilgauskas?  Right.

Rank 22-25:  ENOUGH SAID.

Now, like myself, the first thing you may notice is that Michael Jordan is nowhere to be found on this list, and this is because 2/3 of Michael Jordan’s NBA money was made in the ’97 and ’98 seasons in which he made $30 and $33 million, respectively.  Up until that point, MJ had only made $29 million in the previous 11 seasons, which I’m sure does not bother the GOAT one bit as he is now worth of $500 million.

Here is the Breakdown of MJ’s career earnings by season:

The idea of the likes of Stephon Marbury and Vince Carter being compensated more than Michael Jordan for anything basketball related is mind blowing to me.

To think that Joe Johnson just signed a contract worth more than what Michael Jordan made his entire career as a player…

The saddest part about this list you ask?

There are only 7 players who have at least one ring on this list

I’m Gone

truly sheed is one-man i am glad is rich today; but please continue to love and respect the game-game-game.

  3. Ron says:

All those top guys are going to stay up there for years and years to come too… especially if Stern's new collective bargaining agreement comes to fruition. Hes going to slash player salaries big time.

  4. H-Town says:

lmao this nigga joe johnson gonna skyrocket on that list soon

  5. GreenGoblin says:

"Kobe Tell Me how my Cash Taste"

  6. Allen Iverson is 8 on this list and he's broke?!? Dude, I bet he wished he had a time machine…smh

  7. MakeDollars says:

  8. sean says:

  9. Thomas says:

Somewhere in the world, Mikhail Prokhorov is reading this list and laughing his ass off at these peasants

  10. Que says:

Another sad attribute to this is that a lot those guys are broke? Why do you thing C-Webb commentates? It's not because he likes the spotlight or for the love of the game. The nigga is broke.

    • Nupe says:

That doesn't make any sense. Just because you commentate for the love of the game, that means that you are broke!? If we use your logic, then Charles Barkley and Jalen Rose are broke…which we all know that isn't true. Why spend your money when you can still earn a 6 figure salary and TALK about the sports that made you rich!? It makes a lot of sense to me.

  11. Damon says:

The only one on that list that's anywhere near broke is A.I. Some guys commentate because they love the sport, it has nothing to do with money. Barkley is no where near broke, but he does the basketball shows all the time. Unemployed coaches do it all the time, it has nothing to do with money, cause it's not like those commentating are paying those players 5 million a year.

  12. @ImmortalD24 says:

Dude, you pretty much jacked my post. I collected that information and added on to it from the 07-08 season (when they stopped doing the leader salaries at bball-reference via waybackmachine).

At least credit my post or some shit.

    Will do. Thanks.

  14. Lateshow says:

List is probably right on. It has salaries that have been paid so far. Ongoing salaries and new contracts will change some players from year to year. Salary is before taxes and doesn't include endorsements. It shows how stupid some GM's were with their teams money. You notice that MJ started making decent money at the that time when compared to what others stars got, but his salary blew up the final 2 seasons and he was worth every penny. Besides all the undeserving that got paid, Shaq and KG benefited the most from MJ's huge final 2 year contracts with the bulls. Their huge contracts brought on the current cap of which Kobe Bryant probably lost the most potential money. Now the next contract will cost the future stars and it will never go back to the days when Juwon Howard type player was making that much money. Even today the GM's haven't figured out their jobs. Wait til the next contract and build a contending team for half the price. Joe don't fill seats or win enough games. Amare won't save NY and why get under all that again after finally getting rid of all those bs contracts. Learn from the Yankees. If you are going to spend alot, go after class and talent or wait a season or 2.

  15. Derek says:

hard to believe that those players make as much as they did just for putting a ball in a hoop. 1/2 of the NBA players on this list couldn’t even do that.

  16. Sycampore Slim says:

Why isn't Jordan's 86-87 and 89-90 salary added? Not that it makes a difference, but if you're gonna put down hard numbers, you gotta get 'em right bro…

  17. Rick Felt says:

Where is Ray Allen? He should be top 8 in that list.

  18. Rick Felt says:

Oh and it's obvious you jacked this dudes post.

  20. Jack Mehoff says:

How in the hell did Michael Jordan only make 4 million max a year before he made 30 million for those 2 years? Greg oden has been making 8 million a year for 4 years just to sit on his ass. fisher made 3.7 million this year……. WTF?

  21. otc medicine says:

I read your articles every single day. Keep them coming.

  22. Re earlier post about using chemicals to decaffinate coffee. Methlyene chloride is used. It has a very low boiling point (104F) so any left on the treated beans would be long gone after roasting the beans. Still for those concerned go for the CO2 treated or Swiss water process. If you really want to be concerned about chemicals used in treating food, check out the sprays used on tomatoes etal from mexico. They use Ortho Phenol phenylic which is a deadly neuro toxin!!!
