If you are an un-dratfed rookie barely hanging on to a roster spot on a very bad team, I have a piece of advice.
Don’t do anything off the field that would cause your team to deem you more expendable than you already are. Kevin Alexander just learned a harsh lesson: that only high round draft picks or key contributors on a team can get away with getting arrested and playing the next week.
Aurora Police say they were called to Kevin Alexander’s apartment in Aurora just before 10 a.m. Monday morning. Police say Alexander’s girlfriend called 911. According to investigators, the incident in question happened Sunday night.
The woman told the officer the argument was over Alexander cheating on her. The arrest report states the woman told police Alexander has been cheating on her with one of her friends for some time.
The woman told police the 23-year-old “became very mad and eventually grabbed her several times.”
According to the police report Alexander grabbed the victim by both arms and threw her to the ground.
“He then grabbed her around the throat and pushed her against the wall,” the arrest report states. “She states she was either punched or slapped in the right side of her face.”
The woman also told police she was upset about the incident but didn’t want to do anything that would “jeopardize his career.”
“She feels they will immediately cut him,” the arrest report states.
According to police documents, at one point the woman grabbed a steak knife to keep Alexander away.
The woman also told police Alexander punched her once before.
First off, I am shocked an argument took place about an athlete cheating. Furthermore, I just can’t believe this might not have been the first time he laid hands on her.
I am even more amazed that she didn’t want to jeopardize his career (meaning the checks will stop coming).
I give his girlfriend credit— she seems to know how the NFL works, better than Alexander, because as she predicted he was cut just hours after the arrest.
Is it hypocritical of the Broncos who allowed Perrish Cox to play in a game less than a week after being accused of rape and cutting Alexander who is being accused of domestic abuse?
Of course it is, but Cox is a better player, so he gets more rope, whereas Alexander has been on thin ice since he walked in the complex.
In the end, it is Alexander’s responsibility not to get in trouble and you know my thoughts about men who strong arm women— they should be put under the jail if it is proven.
