Lakers Derrick Caracter Assaulted Pregnant Waitress at IHOP?

Earlier today we reported on Lakers rookie Derrick Caracter being arrested on battery charges after the Lakers loss to the New Orleans.  We have more details on the story and they aren’t pretty.

The incident happened at an IHOP in the French Quarter early Sunday Morning, here are the details.

Derrick Caracter, 22, was arrested about 1:18 a.m. Sunday at the IHOP in the 800 block of Canal Street, said New Orleans Police spokeswoman Shereese Harper.

He “started grabbing and pulling” a pregnant waitress, prompting the manager to go outside and flag down a police officer, Harper said. The female officer tried to defuse the situation, Harper said, but Caracter remained obstinate. The officer arrested him.

He was handcuffed and taken to Orleans Parish jail and booked with one count of battery for hitting the waitress, as well as one count each of public intoxication and resisting arrest. Each charge is a municipal violation, police said.

Reports are coming out that Caracter was possibly intoxicated and that this wasn’t his only “strong arming” incident of the evening.

Unless a woman is coming at you with a knife (see: Brandon Marshall) there is no need to put your hands on a woman.  The fact that she was pregnant only makes worse, because you are not just putting her in jeopardy but also an innocent child.

Add on to the fact the cop appeared to want to let Caracter go, but he pulled the “I’m a NBA player so I can’t be touch” card, just shows his lack of maturity and awareness of the situation.  You are a professional basketball player, start acting like one Mr. Caracter.

This was something that could have been avoided, use your brain it is a tool.

  • I think the Laker need to stay away from IHOP on the road didn’t some OKC fans try to harrass Fisher in last year’s First Round game?

  • Just a bad look all around.

SN: They have an IHOP in the French Quarter?!?!?! Say word!!!!! I remember when they opened the first IHOP in La during my freshman year of college. That was like an epic event.

  • I’m incredibly disappointed that I didn’t get to see this post the first time round. Well done on the ideas and insight.
