Lakers fan are very nervous about the hiring of Mike Brown as head coach, but what they should be worried about is owner Jerry Buss, handing over control of the team to his son Jim Buss.
I do not believe the Lakers as they are currently constructed can win another title. They definitely can compete, but too many young hungry teams on the come up with as much if not more talent than the Lakers have.
The team needs to be shaken up and Andrew Bynum is their most valuable trade asset, but Jim Buss is in love with him.
Buss has made something clear within the Lakers, sources say: Bynum is untouchable in trade talks. For now, this could include a sign-and-deal for the Orlando Magic’s Dwight Howard. The Lakers are Howard’s preference, but they don’t have salary cap space to sign him. They’ll need a deal that includes Bynum to the Magic, but there are those seriously doubting Jim Buss’ desire to make such a trade.
The Lakers should have tried harder to trade Bynum for Carmelo Anthony and it was be crazy if they had an opportunity to get Dwight Howard that Jim Buss wouldn’t do it because Bynum is his “pet project”.
One quality of a good general manager is they are willing to put their personal feelings aside and do what is best for the team. Bynum is a good player, but Dwight Howard is an upgrade and everyone seems to understand that except Jim Buss.
In the era of the Superfriend Teams, the Lakers need another legit superstar because Kobe Bryant’s time is ending as an ultra elite player and if Jim Buss thinks Andrew Bynum is the next Shaq, he is horribly uninformed and will be the the reason the Lakers fall from elite status in the NBA.
