We sent The Lady GM of Ballertainment to Matt Barnes Annual Athletes vs. Cancer event in Cali on Friday Night.  While we have been critical of Barnes and some of his hot headed actions in the past, his event is truly for a good cause.

As someone who has had family members who have battled cancer it is something that we as a society should continue to fight until we find cures for all the different cancers that plague us.

It was star-studded event.  Here are the details.

Los Angeles Lakers forward Matt Barnes and fiancée Gloria Govan hosted the 3rd Annual Athletes vs.Cancer Celebrity Golf Tournament and Gala at the Terranea Resort in Rancho Palos Verdes, CA.

After a full day on the links with celebrity participants including Barnes’ team mates Derek Fisher, Ron Artest, and Kobe Bryant, the couple hosted a garden party for family and friends.

Barnes founded Athletes vs. Cancer after his mother, Ann, succumbed to cancer in 2007.

“Off the court,” said Matt, “I’m a father, I’m a fiancé, and I really care passionately about my foundation and try to touch peoples lives.”

“Everyone knows somebody that has passed away of cancer, or has cancer, or knows somebody, but when it hits home it becomes personal.” “That’s the time when people dive in,” Gloria Govan said, “but it shouldn’t be that way.” “Cancer has no gender, no race, no age, and it can hit anyone at anytime.”

Their commitment to cancer awareness was reflected in the evenings details, especially the cancer survivors that attended as honored guests. The garden was arranged beautifully and there was plenty of food and entertainment, including performances by Jon B., DJ Quik, and a fashion show featuring Matt’s clothing line.

Good stuff, from Barnes and all the attendees. Please visit Matt’s foundation and if you can do anything to help please do.

  • Don’t assume that the design process has wrapped up just because the site is live. Commit to updating your site so that it is current. It will not be necessary to continually make updates, but you should do so fairly regularly. Regular updates are crucial, especially if your website hosts anything relating to current events. Luckily, keeping website current isn’t as overwhelming as tending to a blog. Set aside a few hours everyday to make changes to your website.

  • This really is the perfect weblog for any one who wants to know about this subject. You realize so a lot its nearly difficult to argue with you (not that I truly would want…HaHa). You definitely put a brand new spin on a topic thats been written about for years. Great stuff, just terrific!
