After suffering a concussion this past Sunday against the Rams, quarterback Alex Smith of the San Francisco 49ers was not able to get clearance from a neurologist and will not play tonight against the Chicago Bears.
Per ESPN’s Mike and Mike: This just in: Chris Mortenson, “Alex Smith will not play tonight against the Bears. He was unable to get clearance from a neurologist one week after suffering a concussion according to sources. Colin Kaepernick will start in Smith’s place in a game that will also feature Jason Campbell because Jay Cutler has also been declared out. So, no Alex Smith and no Jay Cutler in tonight’s huge game on ESPN’s Monday Night Football.”
In a pivotal Monday night match-up between two division leaders, it may come down to which backup quarterback plays the best.
However, with two great defenses facing each of them expect some struggles.
