Many people believe that Patrick Mahomes will be the Future GOAT. In his seven-year career, Mahomes has both equaled and exceeded TB12’s achievements thus far. Therefore, many argue that Mahomes will join Michael Jordan as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time if he can maintain his consistency, much like Brady. Fortunately for him, he already appears to share some traits with the greatest American athlete in history.
The legendary sportscaster, Colin Cowherd, drew an intriguing comparison between NBA legend Michael Jordan and phenom Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs in the most recent episode of The Colin Cowherd Podcast.
According to Cowherd, Patrick Mahomes’ poise and level of skill as a player are presently comparable to those of Michael Jordan during the middle of his second three-peat.
The Chiefs quarterback’s development over the past four years, aside from his exceptional talent, can be attributed to his ability to make layups. Similar to Jordan, Mahomes is now extremely cautious about using up energy on the field so that he can give it his all during crucial moments. Therefore, Mahomes is adept at waiting till the right time, much like Jordan.
“I would compare Michael to Mahomes. There is absolute Artistry but Mahomes is better today than four years ago for the same reason Michael was better in his second three-peat than his first. It is that he took the layups and he had great discretion on the use of energy like Michael knew to hold it off.”
To bolster his argument, Cowherd next gave a sample from Mahomes’ play. Though he can run the entire game, the Chiefs star chooses to use his energy in the most important quarters and moments of the game, according to the seasoned analyst.
“Michaels and Mahomes now take the layups. They conserve energy. Like Patrick could run all the time. But it’s always interesting [that] he runs always on the Third and one or fourth and one in the fourth quarter, he could do that all game.”
Nick Wright, a fellow commentator on the program, added his own perspectives to Cowherd’s evaluation. Wright provided an insightful analysis of why quarterbacks should have Patrick Mahomes’ “dad-bod” in order to play quarterback.
