CBSSports.com is reporting that Morehead State head coach Sean Woods has been suspended one game for his outburst and berating of a player Wednesday night.
Woods will miss Monday’s game against Norfolk State.
Woods made a brief statement regarding the matter.
“My behavior during Wednesday night’s game was inappropriate and unacceptable. I am truly sorry,” Woods said in a statement. “This type of situation will not happen again.”
With less than six minutes remaining, Woods lit into guard Devon Atkinson after he committed a ticky tack foul.
The reason for Woods berating and being upset with Atkinson has never been revealed.
I would assume from the video, Woods was not pleased with Atkinson’s body language or language he may have used towards the coach.
Morehead State Athletic Director Brian Hutchinson also released a statement.
“Near the end of the game, Coach Woods’ interaction with one of our student-athletes was unacceptable,” director of athletics Brian Hutchinson said. “[The suspension] will allow Coach Woods to consider his action and behavior, and allow him time to contemplate the appropriate way to conduct himself with his players and on the sideline.”
