Chiefs Plan To Get Jamaal Charles More Involved In Passing Game

Jamaal Charles is one of the most explosive running backs in the NFL.

How do you make him more explosive?

You circumvent mismatches in the passing game that will match Charles up on any defender, and allow him to be at the advantage.

Does that sound like a strong game plan?

Andy Reid think so.

Reid loves to get running backs involved in the passing and screen game, and according to, Charles can definitely expect to get more involved in the passing game.

Jamaal is a big part of it,” Reid said of the Chiefs’ passing game. “He’s capable of doing the same things Westbrook did [and] McCoy did, as far as the passing game. He’s a legitimate threat with his speed, his route-running ability and his hands. He catches the ball very easily.”

Charles for his part, spends a good amount of time working on his new-found aspect of the game.

“I’m not even worrying about running right now,” Charles said. “We’re focused on getting the chemistry down with the quarterback. . . . It’s a lot of studying, a lot of focus, a lot of hearing what the quarterbacks are saying. I have to learn coverage, man, cover 2, and all that stuff learning to play wide receiver.”

Charles has never caught more than 45 passes in one single season.  He should have that total by week 9.
