Reigning Sixth Man of the Year and apparent new Knicks spokesman J.R. Smith attended a PGA Foundation event at Chelsea Piers in New York on Saturday, and couldn’t help himself from making some predictions. When asked how sure he was that the Knicks title drought would end this year, he said:
“I’m 100% sure.”
Later on, he elaborated on why he is so confident going into next year:
“I feel comfortable. People ruled us out last year early, too. We added some great pieces. Unfortunately, we got rid of some good pieces. But we added Andrea [Bargnani], Beno [Udrih], Metta [World Peace]. We have to consistently play like we did the first 20 games last year the whole season. We can’t have a middle-of-season lapse. We have to consistently play the same way.”
The Knicks need to focus on more realistic goals like making the conference finals. No one outside of their fans and locker room view them as a serious threat in the East and at best they are a 3 seed. I guess stranger things have happened though.
