Timothy Wolfe, The University of Missouri System President, has called for an investigation following an episode of ESPN’s Outside The Lines that aired on Sunday about the alleged rape of a former Missouri swimmer Sasha Menu Courey by a Mizzou football player.
Via CBS Sports:
In question is whether “there were any shortcomings” in the University of Missouri’s “handling of this matter” regarding former Missouri swimmer Sasha Menu Courey according to Timothy Wolfe, president of the Missouri system.
The swimmer told health care professionals, a rape crisis counselor and an academic advisor she had been raped by a football player, according to the report. Courey was diagnosed with borderline personality disorder at the time she committed suicide in 2011.
According to a statement released by Missouri, the school never investigated the alleged assault and instead the university’s police department sent the case to the Columbia P.D. because the alleged assault occurred off campus.
This is a very sad situation and if any type of cover up is discovered this will be very detrimental to Missouri’s university and athletic programs, especially since Courey committed suicide.
