Alex Smith proved to the Chiefs that he can be the guy at quarterback, and now Smith and his team are in the early stages of a nice extension for the Pro Bowler.
General manager John Dorsey told reporters on a Tuesday conference call that negotiations to extend the quarterback’s contract are ongoing, according Herbie Teope of The Associated Press.
#Chiefs GM John Dorsey said on conference call the contract extension talks with QB Alex Smith are ongoing. Offered no timetable.

When asked to elaborate, Dorsey told the media “I don’t really talk about [negotiations] outside of the building.”
Smith has one more year left on his deal at $7.5 million in 2014.
I can see a five-year $60-$70 million deal for the efficient game manager.
