Jared Remy has a history of violence and it culminated in the death of his girlfriend.
Jared Remy, the chronically violent son of one of New England’s most famous sports figures, today pleaded guilty to first-degree murder for savagely killing his girlfriend, Jennifer Martel, in their Waltham home last August, a death that may have been witnessed by the couple’s daughter.
Remy, son of well-known Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy, entered his guilty plea before Middlesex Superior Court Judge Kathe Tuttman and now faces a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. Remy, according to lawyers not associated with the case, will now leave prison only by his death or if a future political figure commutes his sentence.
Remy admitted to killing Martel on Aug. 15, 2013, a brutal attack that took place while their then-4-year-old daughter, Arianna, was home, officials said.
The sad thing is Martel had filed a complaint against Remy the day before, but the cops released him even though they could have held him.
