Jameis Winston’s attorney, David Cornwell, is now alleging that the Title IX investigation that was called for at the beginning of the season isn’t even technically legal in reference to the by-laws of a Title IX investigation. According to Cornwell, FSU’s policy states the investigations in sexual harassment cases must be done in a “timely manner” and that FSU will not generally investigate cases outside of a year period.
Cornwell goes on to reiterate that the accusation from Erica Kinsman that Jameis raped her is going on 2 years old, and he demands the university give an explanation as to why Jameis is being singled out. He also points out that Kinsman initially refused to participate in the Title IX process. Cornwell also states that Kinsman only decided to pursue the Title IX route when her attempt to extort $7 million from Jameis failed.
Finally, Cornwell demands that FSU adhere to their own policy regarding Title IX investigations and reject the complaint due to the fact that the one year statute has already passed.
