Tony Romo made some questionable throws in the Cowboys opener against the San Francisco 49ers Sunday. None was more dubious than the interception he threw early in the 2nd quarter that landed in the hands of Niners LB Patrick Willis. Everyone was in shock(not really) that Romo would actually try to thread the needle with a pass to Jason Witten in a tightly covered area of the end zone when Dwayne Harris was wide open. Nobody was more shocked than Willis.
“By the time I spotted it, I was peeking out of the corner of my eye for Witten because we thought we were going to get him,’’ Romo said. “In that process I missed Dwayne. It was a little different coverage than I thought going into it.’’
“It was one of those things where you couldn’t believe he actually threw it,’’ Willis said. “I just remember my eyes got really big and the ball got really small. I was thinking just hold onto it.
“It felt good.”
This play certainly changed the momentum of the entire game. Cowboys went on to lose the game 28-17.
