More good news for Carolina Panthers fans is coming down the pike today. As per Panthers head coach Ron Rivera, it’s looking like QB Cam Newton could be good to go for their week two matchup vs the Detroit Lions:
“We’ll expect to see him on the practice field Wednesday.” – Ron Rivera on Cam Newton

Rivera said he “expects him to be ready to roll,” meaning he expects Newton to start vs. Detroit. #Panthers — David Newton (@DNewtonespn) September 8, 2014
Rivera also made it clear (via Steve Reed of the AP) that he’s comfortable with handing backup QB Derek Anderson the reigns if need be, after he held down the fort in week one vs the Tampa Bay Bucs:
Rivera said he has always felt comfortable with Anderson, says he feels good he can fall back on him moving forward.

Having a competent backup QB that can come in and keep the train on the tracks in the event the starter is forced to miss considerable time is proven to be invaluable yet again. Anyone that thinks the reserve signal-caller is just a body on a roster should ask St. Louis about the importance of having a good one.
