Well that escalated quickly.
According to a report courtesy Sports Illustrated via Nick Carfardo of the Boston Globe, the Boston Red Sox may already be looking to offload Cuban outfielder Yeonis Cespedes, a player they acquired in the Jon Lester trade this past season.
According to Carfardo, Cespedes has previously said he’s not sure if he’ll talk to the Red Sox about negotiating a long-term deal, and doesn’t want to play right field.
Boston has several options in the outfield after trading for Cespedes and signing Cuban Rusney Castillo in August. Shane Victorino missed most of the season with injuries but is signed through 2015, and Allen Craig, Jackie Bradley Jr., Daniel Nava and Brock Holt are all in the mix. The Red Sox also have 21-year-old Mookie Betts, who played 52 major league games in 2014 and can play both outfield and second base.
I’m sure if the Red sox put Cespedes on the trade market there will be lots of suitors.
