Cristiane “Cyborg” Justino made almost $100k in her last Invicta FC fight, an amount unheard of for a smaller women’s MMA promotion. We now know how the promotion handed out so much money.
The UFC’s Zuffa imprint, which cuts the check for fighter’s salaries, signed Justino a few months ago. That makes Cyborg an official UFC employee and makes a fight with Rousey easier than ever. UFC president Dana White says that the rest is up to Cyborg.
“We want to let the world know that we want to make this fight,” UFC president Dana White told “UFC Tonight” reporter Ariel Helwani. “Ronda wants this fight, everyone wants this fight to happen. But she needs to make 135 outside the UFC.”
We know that Rousey will headline UFC 190 in August against undefeated brazilian fighter Bethe Correia, which means any Cyborg match would have to wait until the end of 2015.
Cyborg most likely headlines the Invicta FC card at UFC fight week in July and drops down to 135 for that bout. It’d be enough to get her a shot against the nearly unstoppable Rousey.
