Michael Bradley has been a reporter and teacher of journalism for almost 25 years. I am sure he is a nice guy and swell fella.
He doesn’t like the WWE and doesn’t think mainstream media should be covering it. Now, I could write 1000 words or so how he is wrong, but I am going to do it an easier way. Here is the title of his story, with a quote about how ESPN covering it is foolish…..
But it isn’t good journalism. Viewers, readers and users already have enough trouble discerning what’s real news and what is promotional content, especially with ESPN, the master of blending the two into a self-aggrandizing stew. Giving WWE more than an occasional nod would be extremely risky, since the process would confer legitimacy on something that is clearly a show. What would come next, breakdowns of the previous night’s prime-time lineup? Coverage of the results of a movie’s sports storyline?
Here is what ESPN stands for Entertainment and Sports Programming Network.
So, if the E in WWE is Entertainment and the E in ESPN in Entertainment, wouldn’t that mean that is exactly what they should be covering ? How can he tell someone to remember what the E stands for in WWE and totally ignore what the E stands for in ESPN?
Furthermore where has Mr. Bradley been for the last 5 years or so, Sports Entertainment is big business, that is more interesting to people than box scores. That is why ESPN has 1st Take, 30 for 30 and everything else besides just the games. ESPN has movie stars, rappers, comedians and etc on their airwaves constantly, so to single out WWE as if Kevin Hart has anything to do with anything sports related is just asinine.
The fact he believes that just by covering people will believe that wrestling is real shows just how out of touch with reality Mr. Bradley is. Like that is literally one of the dumbest things I have read ever. If ESPN promotes the movie GET HARD will people think Kevin Hart can turn a mansion into a fake prison for real? Just stop Mr. Bradley, please stop. Maybe he is just trying to be like this lady.
