Louisville head coach Rick Pitino continues to back pedal from the teams prostitution scandal.
His latest comments speak to how little accountability Pitino is showing during this process.
“You have your dorm security people, who are being interviewed by the NCAA, then you have your graduate assistants. One unfortunate one was Andre McGee, whose sole responsibility was to make sure the kids get to school on time, make sure they get up in the mornings when they have a presentation or breakfast with a head coach or family.
And then we have another graduate assistant. So the problem we had, is we did have people in place. And the one person we did have in place, whose sole responsibility was to make sure they do the right things, and unfortunately that was Andre McGee. That was the problem there.” – ESPN
Pitino told Mike & Mike that he wished he could have a conversation with McGee and find out the thought process behind these tactics.
“If I could just get [McGee] in a room for 10 minutes, I would say to him ‘why would you do this? What purpose did it serve? We didn’t need this to get recruits.'”
There’s always 3 sides to a story but it’s hard to believe that Pitino had no knowledge of what went down during these recruiting trips. A graduate assistant’s salary is hardly enough to host hooker parties for athletes several times a year.
Further more, Pitino losing track of 17 & 18-year-old kids on his campus is negligent and egregious. Why would a parent send their child to play for a man who can’t manage to keep his eye on them during a 48 hour recruiting trip?
Sooner or later Pitino will have to answer these questions and his lone national championship at Louisville can only protect him from so much.
