Louisiana Rep. Cedric Richmond has called for a deeper probe into the shooting death of Alton Sterling at the hands of Baton Rouge police officers.
Richmond has called on the Justice Department after 37-year-old Sterling was shot while being pinned down by two police officers. The incident was captured on video and has sparked outrage as it has made its rounds on social media. Richmond states:
There are a number of unanswered questions surrounding Mr. Sterling’s death. Including questions about the initial calls for police presence, the level of force used by officers, the verbal and physical altercation, and the response of the officers after he was shot.
The Justice Department has not responded to Richmond’s request for comment. Baton Rouge police say that the video was put on social media and given to media but not sent to them. They have placed the officers involved on administrative leave and detectives will review the video.
