Marshall Plumlee had at 12 pm game to get to and the way New York City is set up, traffic will get in your way. Plumlee channeled his inner Forrest Gump and thus, ran to MSG instead.
The Knicks have been flirting with .500 and today’s victory against the Hawks got them a tad closer as their record is now 6-7. The team effort was there but the biggest effort of the day was Marshall Plumlee’s sprints to MSG.
Plumlee had received the call at 9:45 am this morning because Joakim Noah had been sent home sick. He had to suit up and the rookie was not going to be late. However, traveling from Westchester to the city is tough. For those of you who don’t know, on Sunday, public transportation is an absolute nightmare in this city and you’re better off running, much like he did.
Living near a Metro-North station, Plumlee elected to take the express train to Grand Central. That went well, but the cab ride to the Garden didn’t. Stuck in traffic, Plumlee said he paid the cab driver to dash through at least one red light.
But eventually, after a $60 tip, Plumlee hopped out. Traffic was too severe, and the 7-footer bolted the final few blocks to the Garden.
“I sprinted over as fast as I could,’’ Plumlee said. “… My phone was blowing up: ‘Are you almost here? Are you almost here?’ I don’t think they realize those texts just slow you down so I put the phone away.
“But I got here. They said, ‘Do you need a warm-up?’
“I’m already warm. I ran here.’’
What’s crazy is that the train station is not far from the Garden but the issue is that the city is forever under construction and traffic will destroy your hopes and dreams of arriving on time.
Plumlee played for a total of 5:26 and snatched a rebound. He is appreciative of this shot and is climbing up.
They sent me to the D-League to develop, and I’m getting better.
He definitely must’ve felt like Forrest Gump.
