Tight end Martellus Bennett was released by the Green Bay Packers a few days go for reportedly failing to disclose the severity of his shoulder injury. Today, Bennett took to Instagram to blast the organization for his release and made it known that the team knew about his shoulder in the offseason along with how it worsened over the course of this season.
Bennett said that the shoulder underwent an x-ray in his first visit to Green Bay on March 10. This was cleared by the team. Bennett went on to say that his shoulder was aggravated in the Packers’ win over the Cowboys earlier this season.
Bennett said that the doctor who was evaluating his shoulder said he could play through this major injury. He accused the doctor of jeopardizing his health so Bennett finally chose surgery. Bennett also claimed that during Green Bay’s bye week, he got off anti-inflammatories to clean his system but he still felt pain. After that, Bennett found out that the shoulder got worse.
Bennett concluded by saying that the Packers panicked when they realized he would go on injured reserve and that retirement would be brought up. In the end, Bennett blamed his shoulder worsening by playing for the Packers.
