Earth’s mightiest heroes continue to reign supreme at the box-office. After taking in a massive $27.6 million in its Thursday preview night, Friday opening day took the total box-office to $84.5 million (combined with Thursday) so far.
Saturday will prove crucial to seeing how many more domestic records the film can break. The only bigger opening day was Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 which opened up with $91 million.
Age of Ultron has already beat out its predecessor The Avengers which hit theaters back in 2012 and took in $80.8 million opening day. Saturday will bring up unique challenges for the otherwise unbeatable films with a heavy sports in the works, the Kentucky Derby in the daytime and Mayweather vs Pacquiao which will break records of its own.
The race is on to see if Age of Ultron can top Furious 7’s record breaking pace to the billion dollar mark. Currently. the movie has grossed $425 million globally.
