Braylon Edwards Traded To Jets..And Lebron Had No Part In It

Text message 8:23 am

“YOOOOOOO LEBRON GOT BRAYLON TRADED TO THE JETS. YOU DON’T MESS WITH LEBRON IN CLEVELAND MAN”

If that was true it would have been the greatest headline ever, but that just wasn’t the case. I’ve learned from several sources that the trade had been in the works for weeks.

Did Braylon punching Lebron’s kid errrrrrr friends expedite the process? Probably but it was going to happen nevertheless.

The Jets have been looking for a deep threat for Mark Sanchez and the Browns have been wanting to get rid of Edwards for over a year.

This was a trade that the Jets were trying to get done in the summer, but the Browns were asking for too much at that time.

In the end the Jets sent Jason Trusnik, wide receiver Chansi Stuckey and a 3rd and 5th round draft picks for the Browns.

Considering a player of similar talent (Roy Williams) was traded for a 1st, 3rd and 5th round pick you can say that Jets paid a reasonable price for Edwards.

The Jets are taking some risks.

First, if the Cleveland authorities decide to charge Edwards with assault he could be looking at a suspension from the NFL.

Secondly, Edwards the player has slipped badly over the last couple of years. They are banking that just was a product of a bad environment in Cleveland. But remember that Dallas thought the same thing about Roy Williams and he has turned out to be the same Roy Williams in Dallas that he was in Detroit.

Lastly how will the pressures of being in the NYC effect Edwards. Edwards was sensitive to criticisms in Cleveland how is he going to handle the New York media? Edwards has been described as someone who is a “mirror watcher”. Meaning he loves admiring himself. The nightlife in NYC attracts that type of person will he be able to handle that shine?

In the end I think the Jets took a calculated risk, but a risk worth taking especially considering they didn’t sign him to a ridiculous new contract (once again see Roy Williams) until they see how he plays on the field.

I would still be nervous about a player who pencils in his beard and mustache, but what can you do.
