This is according to Jason La Canfora from NFL.com. Art Rooney held a press conference today stated that Ben Roethlisberger will be disciplined, but would not say what that discipline will be. The discipline will be “team imposed” and Mr. Rooney stated that Roethlisberger has agreed to accept any punishment that is given.
My sources say that it will be a two-game suspension, which I think is way too light, but that is what I have been hearing for weeks. I am also hearing he may have to enter alcohol rehab (not sex rehab, which he might need more than Tiger).
Here is what La Canfora had to say about a possible Ben Roethlisberger trade:
The Rooney family is “livid” over Roethlisberger’s off-field embarrassments, and they would listen “intently” if other teams called about the quarterback. As of yet, they have not held trade talks with other teams. The Steelers are reportedly “enamored” of Sam Bradford, but they don’t believe the Rams — or any other team — would take on Big Ben given his considerable “baggage” of late. Don’t expect the Steelers to give Roethlisberger away as they did Santonio Holmes. They know he’s too valuable.
In essence, Roethlisberger is on very thin ice but it is hard to trade a franchise quarterback and get equal value. You add on his “strong arming” accusations and it might be impossible at this time.
As you can imagine, the Steelers image means a lot to them, and Roethlisberger has damaged that image greatly. It only makes sense that they would at least consider trading him, just to show that they take their image seriously. Mr. Rooney acknowledged the “internal discussions,” but also stated they had not spoken with any teams in regard to a trade.
According to Mr. Rooney, the Steelers and Roger Goodell have agreed upon a punishment. I will wait patiently to see what that is before I make an overall assessment of if I think it is fair or not.
