Whereas I don’t like when athletes use the term “slave” to make a point, I will explain how what Haynesworth said makes perfect sense, even if he shouldn’t be the spokesperson for the statement.
Here is what Haynesworth had to say:
“I guess in this world, we don’t have a lot of people with backbones. Just because somebody pay you money don’t mean they’ll make you do whatever they want. I mean, that means everything is for sale. I mean, I’m not for sale,” Haynesworth said on 106.7 The Fan, via the Washington Post. “Yeah, I signed the contract and got paid a lot of money, but just because, that don’t mean I’m for sale or a slave or whatever.”
I agree with 100% with Haynesworth, it is his right as an American to say he doesn’t agree with something or doesn’t want to do something. As long as he understand that it is the Redskins’ right as Americans to punish him as allowed in his contract and the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
When you sign a contract it has a lot of rules in it you need to read before signing.
When Haynesworth accepted the 100 million dollar contract from the Redskins it didn’t include:
“I must like the coach”
“I can only play the position I want”
“I will work out when I feel like it”
I don’t feel any sympathy for Haynesworth, he whines and cries a lot, maybe he is kin to Mo Williams whatever the case maybe, his contract states he plays football for the Washington Redskins and if he doesn’t like that, unlike the slaves he can simply walk away.
But if he does that he will have to pay back some of the thirty million he has already been paid.
Don’t think that is going to happen.
