Manny Pacquiao did what he always does, put on a spectacular crowd pleasing performance.
By the end of the night Antonio Margarito’s face looked like Moe from the Simpsons and Pacquiao added on to his legend.
The interesting thing about Pacquiao is that all the fighters he has beaten on this streak, all had one fatal flaw, but it isn’t that Pacquiao just wins, he dominates and you can’t take that away from him.
The skill set is unquestioned and what I like more anything is that even though he could easily out box the majority of his opponents and cruise to victory, he never backs down from a fight.
He was easily beating Margarito, he had no reason to put himself in harm’s way, but he continually traded in the middle of the ring with a guy who was 17 pounds bigger than him.
That is why fans and media alike (Jim Lampley would marry Pacquiao if he could) give him so much respect.
On the flip side, you have the undefeated and self proclaimed best fighter in the world Floyd Mayweather.
Here is the situation and it doesn’t matter if you are a fan, stan, or hater of Floyd Mayweather.
The majority of people see Mayweather as ducking Manny Pacquiao. Many people in general think Mayweather has gone out of his way to protect his undefeated record.
That is debatable, I think Floyd has made sound business decisions, that aren’t that dissimilar to Pacquiao (it isn’t like Margarito deserved that payday) but at this point his legacy is more contingent on him beating Manny Pacquiao than the other way around.
Mayweather may not care and they will never fight, but if they don’t it will always be brought up when mentioning Mayweather’s legacy.
I would equate it to Dan Marino not winning a Super Bowl. If he won a Super Bowl he would have always been mentioned as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time, but since he didn’t the stats while great still has him down a notch.
Mayweather has to decide if he wants to be John Elway or Dan Marino.
The ball is in his court.
