Report: Rich Rodriguez Fired as Michigan Head Coach

Simply put, if Michigan wanted to have any chance at Jim Harbaugh, they had to fire Rich Rodriguez.

Plus the current AD had no loyalty to Rodriguez since he didn’t hire him— so the writing has been on the wall for awhile.  I would have given him one more year, but in the win or else world of sports now, he wasn’t going to get enough time.

I don’t think Rodriguez is a bad coach—but I think he was a bad fit for Michigan.  He is also a bit of a weasel and not good with the media.  He lies to players and he is manipulative.  It was just a bad combination.

Sources tell Fox 2 that Rich Rodriguez was fired as head coach of the University of Michigan football team Tuesday.

The decision came just three days after his team suffered the worst bowl loss in school history, a 52-14 trouncing at the hands of Mississippi State in the Gator Bowl.

Rodriguez was 15-22 during three seasons in Ann Arbor. He lost a school-record nine games in his debut with the Wolverines two years ago, was 5-7 after starting 4-0 last season and turned a 5-0 start into a 7-5 finish this fall.

Rodriguez will leave with 2 to 4 million in his pocket as a buy out and I believe he won’t be out of work long.  He needs to go somewhere he will be allowed to be a mini dictator.

That was never going to happen at U of M.
