Until the Knicks upgrade their point guard position they will just be a middle of the pack team in the East. The only reason I think they are keeping Chauncey is for trade bait because he has an expiring contract.
Here is what Donnie Walsh had to say.
“We have made a decision to keep Chauncey Billups for the upcoming 2011-12 season. Chauncey, Amar’e and Carmelo are a great nucleus, as we continue to look to improve our team going into the off-season. Chauncey is an extremely talented and experienced point guard – we are very happy to have him back”
Everyone knows that Chris Paul is the point guard they want, the question is will they be able to get him. Even if the Hornets lose their 1st round series to the Lakers, Paul has put himself back on the radar as one of, if not the best point guard in the league.
If he is teamed with Amar’e and Melo the Knicks become championship contenders. Without him, they are the Atlanta Hawks.
