When the Braves traded for Dan Uggla in the offseason, everyone in Atlanta was excited. Finally, the Braves had found their right handed power hitter that would help bring life to a sputtering offense. Upon his arrival in Atlanta, he was given a 5-year 62 million dollar contract before playing a single game. However, there weren’t any complaints as Uggla had a solid track record with the Florida Marlins. The Braves were sure they were getting the slugger that was a lock to hit 30 HRs and 100 RBIs year in and year out.
That Dan Uggla did not appear until recently. Just last month, Uggla was hitting .173 and was feeling the heat in Atlanta for the slow start. Now, Uggla has been on a tear as of late. His batting average is now at .220 and he has 24 home runs already. Most importantly, Uggla is carrying a hit streak which stands at 28 games — which is halfway to Joe DiMaggio’s record of 56 games. Hit streaks always happen in baseball, but once a player gets to the halfway mark, the national media begins to pay more attention.
Uggla has hit .355 during the hit streak and is on a roll right now. 28 games is significant enough because if Uggla rips off a hit in the next 28 games, then he has tied Joe DiMaggio’s record.
