Today’s Marlins vs Mets game features two teams who are a combined 50.5 games out of first place. It is the last game the two teams will play in Florida this season and the time the Mets come this way for a regular season it will be in the spiffy new retractable roof stadium.
But that is not why today’s game is going to be memorable. In a pitching match up straight from the minds of 5th graders and sophomoric adults like me, Florida’s Brad Hand takes on R.A. Dickey of the Mets.
That’s right, the age old match-up of Hand vs Dickey.
The radio and TV guys here in Miami are absolute professionals, Hall of Famer Dave Van Horne among them, but it will be interesting to see if they can avoid the temptation of making bad puns when talking about this dud of a game (especially if it becomes a blow out).
As an added bonus, Dickey is a knuckleballer which adds a whole new dimension to the puns possibilities.
Watch for references to “choking up on the bat”, “slapping it to the opposite field” or “seeing eye single” (just to name a few).
