What people don’t realize is that you have major arteries all over your body, even in your hand.
If you sever any one of those arteries you can bleed to death from something that doesn’t appear to be that bad, like hitting a Fire Extinguisher glass.
Stoudemire’s hand was severely injured after he hit the glass casing, ESPN The Magazine’s Chris Broussard reported early Wednesday morning. “He didn’t haul off and punch the glass,” a person who saw Stoudemire get injured is reported as saying. “He hit it out of frustration. He kind of slapped it, but with a closed fist. He said he thought it was plastic instead of glass.” But the move was forceful enough that Stoudemire cut his hand severely, according to the report. “Half of his hand was just hanging off,” the person told ESPN. “It was really bad. Blood was just squirting out. That’s why they had the paramedics come in, because they thought he might have punctured an artery because of how much blood was coming out.”
It definitely could have been a more serious situation and should be a cautionary tale to anyone who has thoughts of punching something out of frustration.
Amar’e needs to take the offseason just to relax and get his head together.
Come back fresh and strong next year.
