Tonight is the eve before Madden 13 hits stores, leaving both gamers and NFL diehards foaming at the mouth. Now, personally I fall very much into the latter category, I’m ashamed to say that I’ve never actually played Madden. But being invited to the launch party my interests in the game, which were already piqued, skyrocketed to the enth degree and I must say I loved what I saw.
Rapper Jada Kiss and his entourage were in the building and engaged in an epic game which went into three overtimes with the Eagles taking on the Drew Brees led Saints–now, you know this was Madden because the Eagles ended up winning in dramatic fashion, and Vick stayed healthy. Jada Kiss can also boast the honor of being the ‘first’ to have in his possession a copy of Madden 13 before the public
The event gave great insight to all the new features that Madden 13 will bring compared to ones past. For example, with a new feature called ‘connected careers’ players now have the ability to control a coach or a player through seasons to build up a legacy score. This edition of Madden has also been praised for the upgraded graphics even in minute things like lighting difference–it all goes to enhance the realistic values which makes the game so darn addictive and live.
One of the best parts of the night was going around and ‘testing’ some of those in attendance’s NFL knowledge and finding out which teams they root for. Even though the focus was on virtual football I still wanted to keep the theme of actual football fresh on the agenda, and as a way of bringing everyone back to real life. I met the members of ItsTheReal and surveyed them on which teams they like:
An evening spent in the world of Madden offered me a chance to understand the passion and allegiance to the game that’s so much more than just a game . Getting to see it played up close and personal from those who know it inside and out, seemed to be the equivalent to being a spectator at a real live Football gams–there were bouts of laughter, sorrow and victorious show boating. As I type there are legions of fans nationwide lined up waiting to purchase this Holy Grail of virtual gaming, and I must admit after an eveing spent in the thick of the action I’m kind of mad I’m not waiting on line with them.
