This time last year almost every division in MLB was wrapped up, this year there’s two who can boast such a claim.
The Cincinnati Reds dispatched the Dodgers earlier 6-0 to take the NL Central division, sitting pretty at 92-60. The Reds only job now in the regular season is to try and thwart the Nationals from taking the best record in the NL so they can secure homefield all through the playoffs. The Reds have bounced back huge from last year’s near collapse and now can celebrate.
Over in the NL West the Giants played with baited breath having already known the Dodgers had lost, meaning a win would wrap up the division. If there was an award for team that’s overcome the most odds in a season the Giants would be front-runners. They’ve dealt with the lackluster performance of Lincecum, who’s having his worst season ever. They’ve managed to push forward despite losing the huge bat of Melky Cabrera and some big injuries along the way. The 2010 world series champs are back in a familiar spot–being winners. They defeated the Padres 8-4 to seal up the division.
With little less than two weeks left in baseball’s regular season all indications prove that for the most part teams will take things down to the wire. We very well may be in store for another storied night of baseball that we were treated to last season.
